Doctor accused of running 'Pill Mill' in Taylor faces 35 charges and surrenders his medical license

TAYLOR, Mich. – A neurologist facing 35 criminal charges stood in court Tuesday as he surrendered his medical license.

Dr. Ram Garg, who is accused of directing what Taylor Police called in on Tuesday, Oct. 29, to a nightmare pill mill that was attracting people from all over Michigan and Ohio.

He pleaded not guilty Tuesday afternoon to a scheme in which he wrote fake prescriptions for dangerous opioids and then allegedly issued fake medical bills to reap millions of dollars.

Doctor's house, clinic searched

Local 4 cameras were on scene when Taylor police raided Garg's Taylor clinic in late September and made shocking allegations that the doctor wrote fake prescriptions for narcotics and highly addictive opioids to thousands from Michigan and Ohio. Garg's 21,000-square-foot home on Surria Court in Bloomfield Hills was also searched.

Taylor police said Garg's clinic on Telegraph Road was known as the place where the doctor wrote prescriptions for painkillers whether you needed them or not, fueling addiction and all that comes with it.

Taylor police Detective Jeff Adamisin, who has worked on the case for four years, said thousands of patients have gone to Garg for pills.

“To prescribe these pills without any medically sound justification for it – not only is it illegal, but it's causing a huge problem not only in this city, not only in this state – but in terms of addiction and overdoses, etc The resulting deaths are terrible,” Adamisin said in September.

So far, authorities have identified 16 bank accounts containing millions of dollars.

Garg faces 35 charges

Thirty-five charges of unlawful prescribing, falsification of medical records and healthcare fraud were filed against Garg.

Garg was released on $100,000 personal bail.

Bedroom in the clinic

We also first discovered that there was a bedroom in this clinic – not just a bed, but an entire bedroom that a former employee described as a recovery room.

Police are investigating some allegations of sexual misconduct.
