PlayStation 6 price cheaper than expected in new leak – Playstation

According to a recent leak, the next PlayStation console may already be in development – and hopefully it will be a lot cheaper than we might have thought.

This news comes in the form of a post from a famous leaker known as “Kelper,” who recently posted some information about Sony’s plans for the next console in a NeoGAF thread.

The leak was then compiled and amplified by another poster, HeisenbergFX4, in a separate thread detailing both of Kelper's comments.

According to Kelper, “There are two SoCs in development for the next generation, I don't know if it's a Series X/S situation or a home console + handheld, but probably at least one of them will be affordable.”

They also followed up this comment by stating that “the two SoCs I mentioned in this thread are for PS6.”

In case you don't understand all the jargon at play here, “SoC” is short for “System on a Chip.” An SoC is essentially a circuit that contains most of the components that a modern electronic system requires, such as GPU, CPU and RAM.

For home consoles, these SoCs are always custom-made. In the case of the PlayStation 5, for example, the SoC was custom-made by both AMD and Sony.

So why would Sony develop two SoCs at the same time? There are a few theories, but it's possible that Kelper is spot on with his Series X/S comparison.

Sony could potentially develop two different PS6 consoles at the same time: one that is less powerful but more affordable, and one that is superior but of course more expensive.

Alternatively, some commenters on the NeoGAF thread seem to think this could mean a handheld version of the PlayStation 6 could be in the works.

That would explain why one of the SoCs would be cheaper, as Sony would undoubtedly charge more for a console version than for a handheld.

Ultimately, we'll have to wait and see what announcements Sony has in store for us, but considering there was about three years between the announcement of the PlayStation 5 and the release of the PlayStation 4 Pro, we'll probably be waiting a while.
