Pedestrian dies in crash near Irvington and Houghton Road

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A pedestrian was killed in a crash Oct. 22 near Irvington Road and Houghton Road.

Tucson Police responded to reports of a pedestrian accident on the 10000 block of E. Irvington Road just before 11 p.m.

TPD said the pedestrian, a man, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Tucson police said the driver involved was not injured.

During the investigation, investigators learned that the pedestrian was in the eastbound lane of Irvington Road.

According to Tucson police, when the driver of the Honda was struck by a Honda CR-V traveling eastbound, he stopped immediately after the collision and cooperated with the investigation.

A DUI unit officer responded to the scene and determined that the driver, who was a 66-year-old male, was not impaired at the time of the accident.

Investigators are working to determine whether the pedestrian was walking in the roadway or attempting to cross Irvington Road.

TPD said the pedestrian was not in or near a crosswalk. Investigators discovered that there is no street lighting in the area.

On October 29, TPD traffic detectives were informed by the coroner's office that the pedestrian had died as a result of the injuries he sustained.

He was identified as 68-year-old Alfred T. Diaz. The family has been notified.

The investigation is still ongoing.
