Bangor man charged with murder of ex-girlfriend

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – A Bangor man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend has been indicted by a Penobscot County grand jury.

Richard Thorpe, 42, is charged with murder.

Bangor police say Thorpe is responsible for the death of 39-year-old Virginia Cookson.

According to court records, Cookson was strangled in her Larkin Street home last month.

Investigators say Cookson and Thorpe recently separated.

A judge declined to set bail for Thorpe.
