Cookie survey? Minnesota bakery goes viral for its presidential pastry

A Minnesota bakery shares the weekly results of its ongoing presidential cookie survey.

The red, white and blue sugar cookies at Hanisch Bakery and Coffee Shop in Red Wing feature buttercream frosting and one of two names: Trump or Harris.

According to Week 12 results posted by the bakery on TikTok, former President Donald Trump had sold 6,743 cookies as of Monday, compared to Vice President Kamala Harris Harris' 3,385.

“@President Donald J. Trump extends his lead over @Kamala Harris,” the bakery noted in the post.

It's apparently interesting news for Minnesota, which is known as a blue state.

“MN would be red if we neglected the accuracy of the cookie survey,” one person wrote.

The post was one of several videos Bakey shared about the poll leading up to the election.

Fans have been following this for months and some say they have more faith in the cookie survey results than in the government.

“This cookie poll is more accurate than the 2020 election,” one person wrote.

Others mocked anyone who seriously relied on the results.

“There's no way you can trust a store's cookie poll more than you trust our Electoral College,” another noted.

Some other posts showed customers smiling or biting into their cookies.

Bakery owner Bill Hanisch said the cookie survey began in 1984. This year the eleventh cookie survey will take place.

“We conducted presidential election cookie polls as a fun way to promote the voting process with buttercream cookies!! Thank you to everyone who enjoyed the cookies and supported their candidate in a nice way!!!” he wrote on Facebook.

In 2020 alone, the bakery reportedly sold around 18,000 election cookies.

The cookies sell for $4.50 each.
