Sitka hunter mauled to death by bear

SITKA, Alaska (KTUU) – Alaska State Troopers said an overdue hunter was found dead Wednesday after search and rescue crews were dispatched to find him.

The hunter's body was identified as 50-year-old Tad Fujioka of Sitka. Fuijoka was reported missing by police on Tuesday evening during a deer hunt. Police said in a statement that investigations revealed that he was likely the victim of a fatal bear attack.

On Wednesday, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, the U.S. Coast Guard and Sitka Search and Rescue conducted a search in a remote wooded area near Sitka and were transported by an AWT patrol vessel and a Sitka SAR vessel.
