An Ohio officer was “attacked” by a giant runaway pumpkin in a viral video – months after turkeys chased him during a traffic stop

Pumpkin spice and run for your life.

An Ohio police officer was “attacked” by an out-of-control inflatable pumpkin in a bizarre scene just months after viral footage showed the same officer being chased by wild turkeys during a traffic stop.

The giant Halloween decoration was blown away from a resident's yard during high winds in Bay Village, Ohio, on October 14 and fell into the middle of a road, blocking two lanes of traffic.

Officers from the Bay Village Police Department – located west of Cleveland – were dispatched to the eerie crime scene to contain what they called a “runaway pumpkin.”

Dashcam footage showed the decorative jack-o-lantern rolling directly over Officer Grant Williams' body as he rolled closer to the patrol car's windshield. The police officer disappeared from the camera for almost 20 seconds until he was spotted again.

When backup officers arrived at the scene, Williams was able to pick pumpkins. They harnessed the inflatable vine and pulled the giant inflatable pumpkin from the suburban street onto the grass.

“Fortunately, no officers (or pumpkins) were injured during the event,” a police statement said.

Just in time for the start of the Halloween celebrations, the police bring the powerful object safely back to its owner.

This isn't the first time Williams has been caught on camera in a strange situation while working.

In March 2024, Williams was training aspiring police officer Molly Searles when two wild turkeys chased the pair during a routine traffic stop.

Dashcam footage showed them overtaking a suspect who was speeding as they were approached by the two male turkeys, who chased the officers back into their patrol car.

“I don't know what's wrong with me. We'll see if Santa Claus comes around Christmas time to haunt me, but I think this is probably one of the funniest moments of this career,” Williams told CBS News.

“As soon as they were in the car, you could actually hear on the video the turkeys starting to eat and getting closer and closer to the patrol car,” Sergeant Edward Chapman told Fox 8 News.

The city's wild turkey population increases each year, and in the spring the turkeys' hormones “run rampant” as they prepare to mate.

Tim Jasinski, a wildlife rehabilitation specialist at the Lake Erie Nature Science Center, said the wild turkeys were more comfortable in suburban areas because they were either being fed or looking to mate, the outlet added.
