Viral video shows white man berating and fighting poll workers over his hat

Authorities have launched an investigation into a fight that broke out at a polling station in Orangeburg County, South Carolina.

Accordingly WIS news 10On Wednesday (October 30), an altercation broke out between a man shouting “Let's go Brandon” and poll workers at the old Orangeburg County Library.

The video shows poll workers asking the man to take his hat “outside.” At one point during the video, the man insulted a poll worker when he was told he wasn't allowed to vote. A poll worker called for the next person in line before the man threw his hat toward the person waiting to vote next.

A fight then broke out between a poll worker and the man. Staff held the man back as he swung his arms at another poll worker.

The Orangeburg County Department of Public Safety responded to the incident. Under South Carolina law, voters cannot wear anything that depicts a political party, a candidate's name or a ballot.

“The returning officer shall use all reasonable means to keep the area within five hundred feet of such entrance clear of political literature and displays, and county and municipal law enforcement officers shall, upon request of an returning officer, remove or cause to be removed .”remove any material within five hundred feet of such entrance distributed or displayed in violation of this section,” the law states.

The South Carolina Department of Law Enforcement has launched an investigation into the altercation. Early voting continues in South Carolina through November 2nd.
