Tennessee Football debuts “Dark Mode” jerseys in viral #VenomVols TikTok

To get into the “dark mode” mentality, the Tennessee Volunteers football team released a TikTok video featuring their black uniform, which garnered 23.1 million views and 5.3 million likes in just three days.

No. 7 Tennessee (6-1) hosts Kentucky (3-5) on Nov. 2 at Neyland Stadium. Although the game takes place after Halloween, the Vols will don their iconic “Dark Mode” jerseys to face the Wildcats.

To commemorate the stylish jerseys, TikTok account @vol_football uploaded a 50-second video showing wide receiver Dont'e Thornton Jr. preparing for the game as a dark and twisted edited version of Kendrick Lamar's summer hit ” “Not Like Us” is playing.

A black substance resembling the alien symbiote Venom from Marvel Comics takes over Thornton and changes his uniform to “Dark Mode”.

Among the over 28,200 comments, the official @venommovie noticed the similarity and commented “Venom Mode Baby!” with #VenomVols. The Tennessee account responded by saying, “#VenomVols is going CRAZY.” This is apt timing, as “Venom: The Last Dance” just hit theaters.

Most TikTok users commented on how good the editing of the video was and that the editor should get a raise. A few other notable accounts that left comments were Papa John's, Breaking Benjamin and Haley Kalil.

The UT-Kentucky game begins Nov. 2 at 7:45 p.m. and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
