3 people convicted of killing their father at youth soccer practice in New Jersey

Three men have been convicted in the 2018 killing of a father at a youth football practice in South Jersey.

Eugene Cosby, 48, of Malaga, Will El-Bey, 28, of Vineland, and Clifton Bailey, 33, of Camden, were all found guilty by a jury of murder and other crimes in connection with the fatal shooting in Cumberland County the public prosecutor's office.

The shooting occurred at Lakeside Middle School in Millville on August 9, 2018 around 8 p.m. The victim, 37-year-old Joseph Jones, was shot 10 times by a masked gunman in the school parking lot at the end of practice, officials said.

In announcing the jury's decision Thursday, the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office did not say who the masked gunman was.

Parents and children witnessed the shooting as they walked from the field back to their cars, prosecutors said.

After the shooting, Cosby and Bailey abandoned the vehicles used in the crime, authorities said. Cosby and El-Bey also conspired with others to provide investigators with false information, prosecutors said.

It took about three months for investigators to identify and arrest the three men.

Evidence uncovered during the investigation included telephone and text message conversations about the murder conspiracy, as well as a 9mm Glock pistol found during a search of El-Bey's home and believed to have been used in the shooting.

They will all be sentenced on January 10th.
