Thais killed near Israel-Lebanon border, Israeli warplanes bomb Beirut suburbs | Israel attacks Lebanon news

Seven civilians were killed in rocket fire from Lebanon as Israeli forces carried out deadly air strikes on Beirut.

Four Thai farm workers were killed in Hezbollah rocket attacks on northern Israel as the Israeli military hit the Lebanese capital with multiple airstrikes.

Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa said in a post on the social media platform on Friday

“Thailand continues to urge all parties to return to the path of peace on behalf of the innocent civilians severely affected by this ongoing and worsening conflict,” Maris added.

Israeli medics said late Thursday that three Israeli civilians were also killed in the rocket attacks from Lebanon, the deadliest cross-border attacks since the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah escalated in August.

An estimated 30,000 Thai nationals live in Israel, where salaries are much higher than in the Southeast Asian country.

Thai nationals in Israel have been hit since Israel's war in Gaza began last October. More than two dozen Thais were believed to have been captured during this month's Hamas-led attack on southern Israel, and 23 were released from captivity during a brief ceasefire in November 2023.

The Israeli army said two more Thai nationals died in captivity in Gaza in May.

While there have been almost daily cross-border attacks between Israel and Hezbollah since the Gaza War began, Israel increased its airstrikes and killings of Hezbollah leaders as the war entered its second year.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least 2,865 people have been killed and 13,047 injured in Israeli strikes in Lebanon since the start of the war on Gaza, with 45 people killed nationwide in the last 24 hours.

On Friday, Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported that Israeli warplanes hit at least 10 targets in several neighborhoods south of the capital Beirut, resulting in fatalities.

“The raids left massive destruction in the targeted areas as dozens of buildings were razed and fires broke out,” NNA said.

Lebanese media said at least two people were killed and four injured in the Israeli strikes.

In a report from Beirut, Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr said the attacks followed another “failed diplomatic attempt” to end the fighting, as senior US officials Amos Hochstein and Brett McGurk arrived for talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin on Thursday Netanyahu were in Israel.

“When they hold talks in Israel, they usually visit Beirut afterwards. This time that is not the case, which is really a clear indication that there is no progress or breakthrough,” Khodr said.

The Israeli military has continued to issue forced displacement orders in Lebanon, including across the eastern city of Baalbek, leaving tens of thousands of people homeless.

“It’s a strategy – repression. It is a form of pressure, just like these airstrikes,” Khodr said.
