Ohio Innocence Project hosts a panel on the death penalty

TIFFIN, Ohio (WTVG) – The Ohio Innocence Project will host a community roundtable on Zoom on November 1 to discuss the death penalty.

According to a press release from the organization, there will be two sessions on November 1, with panels beginning at 9:45 a.m. and ending at 1:15 p.m. on Zoom. The sessions are free and open to the public.

The first program session will include a presentation by a public defender who handles death penalty cases. She will talk about how she helped a Cincinnati man win freedom after 16 years on death row for the murder and rape of a child. The man was wrongfully convicted due to several factors, including inadequate defense counsel.

The man who was wrongfully convicted will also speak during the session.

In the second session, the co-author of “The Politics of Innocence” will present his research on how wrongful convictions affect the decision-making of legislators.
