Report claims FBI sent undercover agents into Trump's 2016 campaign

[Lauren]

New claims from a whistleblower show that the FBI may have launched an undercover investigation into Donald Trump's campaign as early as 2015, long before the official Russia investigation.

IN THE WHISTLEBLOWER DISCLOSURE NOW UNDER REVIEW BY THE HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE, THE WASHINGTON TIMES REPORTS THE CLAIM THAT THE FBI TARGETED DONALD TRUMP'S CAMPAIGN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF HIS CANDIDACY. The claims suggest that then-FBI Director James Comey ordered undercover agents to infiltrate Trump's team and report without proper oversight. The whistleblower, an FBI agent involved in the investigation, says former FBI Director James Comey ordered a secret, off-the-books investigation to gather information about Trump's campaign without any clear criminal evidence to base it on .

The whistleblower report describes how two undercover agents infiltrated Trump's team and allegedly acted as “honeypots”…close contacts embedded in the campaign to gather intelligence. The whistleblower claims that this early operation occurred independently of the CROSSFIRE HURRICANE PROBE, which focused on possible Russian interference.

The whistleblower also claims that senior FBI officials were involved in overseeing the operation, but that effort remained hidden from Justice Department oversight.

A STATED TARGET OF THIS COVERT APPLICATION WAS TRUMP CAMPAIGN ADVISOR GEORGE PAPADOPOULOS. PAPADOPOULOS later pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI but denied that the campaign was coordinated with Russian hackers. The whistleblower claims these denials were withheld from important surveillance requests.

According to the whistleblower, the undercover investigation was finally shut down when news outlets received the agent's photo, but those involved were warned never to discuss the operation, even among themselves.

FORMER FBI EMPLOYEES called these allegations a serious breach of protocol, if true… and that any operation targeting a presidential campaign requires the highest level of clearance, although in this case there appears to be no complete documentation.

Questions are mounting about the FBI's handling of investigations related to the 2016 election. The House Judiciary Committee's investigation is expected to continue in the coming weeks and may shed more light on this operation.
