18-year-old accused of stealing puppy from boat at Navy Yard – NBC4 Washington

An 18-year-old accused of stealing a family's puppy from a boat docked at the Navy Yard was arrested Thursday, authorities said.

Dante Eley, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with second-degree larceny and criminal damage to property.

A family was heartbroken when they sailed from Prince George's County to the D.C. Navy Yard area for dinner on October 11, tied up their boat and returned to find that someone had broken into their boat and her new puppy Pepper was missing.

They were reunited with the three-month-old black Cane Corso after someone bought the dog after seeing an online ad and then learning the puppy had been stolen.

D.C. police did not immediately release information about what led them to Eley. A $1,000 reward was offered to tipsters with information leading to an arrest and indictment.
