Fort Leonard Wood officials provide an update on the case against a man accused of killing a Ligonier soldier at an Army station in Missouri

FOOT LEONARD WOOD. (WPTA) — The 21-year-old Army specialist accused of killing a Ligonier soldier at a military installation in Missouri is headed to Fort Leavenworth.

Wooster Rancy, who is accused of killing 23-year-old Sgt. Sarah Roque has yet to be arraigned, but Fort Leonard Wood officials say he is in custody. The accused killer is a specialist with the 5th Engineer Battalion from North Miami, Florida, who served as a combat engineer with the 509th Clearance Company.

Officials would not comment on whether there are other people of interest in the case. The investigation into Roque's death is ongoing.

Roque was reported missing on October 21 when she failed to report to a morning formation at Fort Leonard Wood. Later that day, her body was found in a nearby dumpster.

She joined the Army in 2020 and completed basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood. Roque was a bridge crew member who served as a mine dog handler for a K9 named Zorro.

Officials say Zorro will go through standard military protocol for K9s separately from their handlers.

The soldier was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Nighttime viewing begins at 2:00 p.m. Friday and continues until 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Yeager Funeral Home.

The funeral home is located at 1589 Lincolnway South in Ligonier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 300 Ravine Park Dr.

Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery, Ligonier, where full military rites will be performed.
