Hawaii will receive its first snowfall of the 2024-25 season

Hawaii – Although Hawaii is known for its tropical beauty, it also has high peaks. In winter, snow falls on the state's highest peak, Mauna Kea. The dormant volcano sits 13,803 feet above sea level and is the highest peak in Hawaii. Technically it is the highest mountain in the world, taking into account its starting point in the Pacific Ocean it is more than 33,500 feet high. Ultimately this means that skiing and snowboarding is possible in Hawaii.

The first snowfall of the 2024-25 season fell on Mauna Kea on Sunday. The Center for Maunakea Stewardship, run by the University of Hawaii, shared the news.

On Monday, the Center for Maunakea Stewardship said there had been five inches of snowfall.

By Tuesday, most of the snow had melted.

While it probably wasn't enough to keep skiing without damaging your skis, it's an exciting sign that winter is coming, even for Hawaii.
