Guatemalan teen charged with sexual assault in St. Lawrence County

OSWEGATCHIE CITY, N.Y. (WWNY) – A 17-year-old from Guatemala was arrested in St. Lawrence County on attempted rape and other charges.

State police said they were called to McGowan Road in the town of Oswegatchie just after 3 a.m. Wednesday for a report of sexual assault.

Investigators allege the unnamed man violently grabbed a person, sexually assaulted them and attempted to remove their clothing.

Police said the alleged victim was able to escape and called a roommate to return to the apartment.

Police arrested the teenager the same day. Police and U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said he provided false documents and a false identity.

He is accused of the following:

  • attempted first degree rape
  • violent touching
  • Second-degree possession of a forged instrument
  • Second Degree Identity Theft

He was arraigned in St. Lawrence County Juvenile Court and sent to the county jail in lieu of $750 bail or $1,500 bond.

The teen was then taken to U.S. Customs and Border Protection for further questioning and processing. He will be held in a juvenile detention center until further notice, police said.
