Man pleads guilty to killing woman on Janesville trail

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The man accused of killing a woman found dead on a bike path in Janesville earlier this year pleaded guilty Friday, court records show.

23-year-old Logan Barclay pleaded guilty to first-degree intentional murder with a domestic violence modifier.

Barclay faces a life sentence. The sentencing will determine whether he is entitled to extended supervision.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 11, 2025.

A criminal complaint detailed that the victim, Kiersten Hansen, was Barclay's former girlfriend. The criminal complaint details that Barclay confessed to taking Hansen on a walk the night of April 16, during which they argued about the possibility that Hansen was pregnant. The coroner's report did not confirm whether or not Hansen was pregnant at the time of her death.

Court documents said Barclay told investigators he “freaked out” and confessed to shooting Hansen in the stomach with a .22-caliber handgun and then walked away, leaving her alone on the trail.

The autopsy report shows Hansen was pronounced dead on April 17 when two people found her body on the trail, according to court documents.
