“Porn is the canary in the coal mine” – Adult film stars join forces to launch anti-Project 2025 campaign

By Jess Sharp, live news reporter

“Porn is the canary in the coal mine” is what adult film director Holly Randall told me when we spoke.

Speaking about the election from her home in Los Angeles, she said access to porn is always the first thing governments target when they plan to attack civil liberties – and that's what Donald Trump has his sights on .

She has been in the industry for 26 years and is the daughter of Suze Randall – one of the first female adult directors.

“Not only have I seen attacks on our industry in the 26 years I've been in it, but I've also seen my parents go through similar things in the 1980s,” she said.

“But this is the most explicit thing I’ve ever seen.”

Holly is one of many porn industry employees who feel this way and is part of a campaign warning about the impact of Donald Trump's election.

The “Hands Off My Porn” campaign plans to spend $250,000 advertising on adult websites in key swing states, warning viewers that prominent Trump allies want to ban pornography and jail those who make it.

The ads will appear before porn videos, with Holly explaining that they will warn viewers that such clips would be banned under Mr Trump.

Holly says it was all laid out in Project 2025 – a document considered a playbook for the next Republican president.

Some of the people involved in Project 2025 are former senior Trump administration officials, but the former president denied knowledge of the document.

However, Trump's Vice President JD Vance wrote the foreword to the latest book by Project 2025 leader Kevin Roberts.

In it, Mr. Vance advocates his ideas as a “fundamentally Christian view of culture and economics.”

“They actually want to ban porn completely, they want to criminalize it, they want to send the people who produce it to prison, they want to lock up people who distribute it, even librarians,” Holly explains.

Page five of Project 2025 states: “Pornography should be banned. The people who produce and distribute them should be imprisoned.”

“Porn is the canary in the coal mine,” says Holly. “It’s the first thing to go when the government wants to restrict your civil liberties, it’s the easiest thing to attack.”

“We live with this every day, our industry is constantly under threat, we are constantly under attack.”

“This is not unusual, but it is the first time it has been associated with a president who is running for office and has so explicitly stated that he wants to ban the entire industry and send us all to prison.”

Speaking about the election so far, she said it was the most “explosive” she had ever seen.

“It's pretty discouraging. He [Trump] has divided our country,” she added.

“We no longer live in a time when we can rest on our laurels.”

When I asked her what she thought of the idea of another Trump presidency, she replied: “If Trump wins, I’m holding on to my British passport. Maybe I’ll just come over.”
