Delphi Murder Trial: Day 14

DELPHI – Saturday marked the 14th day in the Delphi murder trial at the Carroll County Courthouse in Delphi. Suspect Richard Allen faces multiple murder charges in the February 2017 deaths of Abby Williams and Libby German near the Monon High Bridge.

The day began with a decision on whether camcorder videos of Allen at the Westville Correctional Facility could be played in court. The state objected due to the explicit nature of the videos. The defense requested that the videos be played only to jurors “to protect the dignity of several people involved.”

Judge Fran Gull ultimately ruled that the videos would be allowed despite objections from the state.

The defense called Max Baker to the stand again. On Friday, Baker testified that he curated the video Allen recorded while the defendant was in custody.

The videos were dated between April and May 2023. Some videos “contain nudity,” said defense attorney Brad Rozzi.

They were played without sound. No one in the audience, including defendant Allen, could see it.

The defense played ten videos for the jury. The videos got longer and longer. Video #7 was almost 30 minutes long.

As they played, the judges took notes. Many of them looked tense and uncomfortable. Some stared in disgust.

The last video was 52 minutes long. The jury winced. Defense attorney Jennifer Auger was seen with her mouth open and a horrified look.

The content of the videos was unclear to the media and audience because the television was facing away from them.

It was noted that Allen's wife, Kathy Allen, was not present in the courtroom today. The suspicion is that she doesn't want to see the videos.

At 10:46 a.m. the court took a short break
