Cody Rhodes comments that Gunther calls him Second Champion

Cody Rhodes acknowledges Gunther but says the world heavyweight championship is still in its infancy.

Ahead of their clash at WWE Crown Jewel, World Heavyweight Champion Guenther called Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes a second-tier champion compared to him.

In an interview with Cathy Kelley that WWE posted on their YouTube channel, Cody Rhodes was asked about Gunther's comments.

“Obviously the world heavyweight championship is very important,” Rhodes said. “However, the championship is still in its infancy. I think Günther is really good at getting under people's skin. You can't get me. That's not a sentence that I remotely shy away from. [The WWE Title] is the north star of our business and I am lucky to have it. I appreciate Gunther's attitude. I think he’s the only one with that attitude.”

Cody Rhodes on the possible loss to Gunther

Rhodes was also asked to comment on what would happen if he lost to Gunther. He noted that this would have a bigger impact on WWE than people realized. However, Rhodes expressed confidence that he would win.

“You go into everything knowing you’re going to win. However, say you are right. Assuming Gunther wins and leaves Crown Jewel, that has a much bigger impact on WWE than I think people realize. The WWE title is the title that the company holds. So if I lose at Crown Jewel, then we're faced with a situation where [it’s]“Who is the main promoter of WrestleMania?” Who will win the Royal Rumble, what title do they want? It's probably clearer now what title they would want.

“It's incredibly stressful for me to have gone through all of this because you don't want to be the one who devalues the most valuable thing in the game. But I don’t think that will be the case.”

WrestleZone will cover WWE Crown Jewel, which airs November 2nd.
