Davenport man is accused of torturing a man near Centennial Park Friday morning

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – A Davenport man is facing kidnapping and assault charges stemming from an incident near Centennial Park in Davenport Friday morning.

Yonas Seyoum, 45, is charged with first-degree kidnapping, assault while participating in a crime and intentional assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

According to the affidavit, police responded to the area of ​​315 S Marquette Street on Friday morning and found a bleeding man with multiple bruises and a burn mark on the back of his hand.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

According to police, a witness said he saw Seyoum drag the victim off a gravel road west of 315 S Marquette Street, preventing the victim from escaping.

Police said the witness saw Seyoum in possession of a walking stick, an ax and a burning jacket or blanket that he allegedly put on the victim.

According to the affidavit, the witness told police he offered Seyoum $1,000 to stop attacking the victim. Seyoum allegedly accepted the money, gave the witness $60 back and walked away.

The witness told police the victim said he was “tortured for two and a half hours.”

Seyoum is being held in the Scott County Jail on a $1 million bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 12 at 3 p.m
