Election 2024: FBI 'Aware' of Fake Voter Fraud Videos, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff

WASHINGTON— The FBI said it is “aware of two fake videos” purportedly from the agency related to the 2024 election.

According to the FBI, the first video incorrectly stated that the agency had arrested three groups that committed election fraud and the second video referred to Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff. Both were fake, the FBI said.

“Attempts to deceive the public with false content about FBI operations undermine our democratic process and aim to undermine confidence in the electoral system,” the FBI says. “The FBI encourages everyone to obtain election and voting information from reliable sources, such as: E.g. your local election office. And if you suspect criminal activity, we ask that you report this information to state or local law enforcement authorities or your local FBI field office.”

Fake videos are often the work of foreign actors – and particularly Russia, China and Iran, intelligence agencies have assessed. However, the FBI is not saying whether the videos have any foreign connection.

Just yesterday, the secret service declared that a video supposedly showing Haitian migrants on the way to the election in Georgia was a case of Russian influence.

“We need to understand what these adversaries want,” CISA Director Jen Easterly said Thursday in an interview with ABC News chief correspondent Pierre Thomas. “They all only want two things. They want to undermine American confidence in our elections and faith in democracy, and they want to stoke partisan discord. They want to pit Americans against each other, and they look for ways to generate anger, and we know that anger equals engagement.”
