Cards upset No. 11 Clemson in Death Valley

CLEMSON, SC (WAVE) – Before Saturday night's game at Death Valley, the Louisville football team wanted to do something it had never done before: beat the Clemson Tigers.

And after a dominant performance that included two blocked kicks and a 151-yard performance from star freshman running back Isaac Brown, the Cards upset the No. 11 team in the country and improved to 6-3 on the season.

Brock Travelstead started the scoring for UofL with a 21-yard field goal in the first quarter, but the Tigers answered with a touchdown connection from QB Cade Klubnik to Antonio Williams.

In the second quarter, the Cards scored two touchdowns of their own to take a 10-point lead. First, QB Tyler Shough ran the ball from four yards out and Keyjuan Brown hit it from one yard out five minutes later.

The third quarter was Brock Travelstead's show as he hit three field goals, all from over 40 yards, to put UofL ahead by 19 yards.

Phil Mafah ran the ball into the goal from three yards out, cutting the Cards' lead to 12, but Louisville recovered the onside kick attempt, which was reviewed but upheld.

Not content to stay on top, Brown broke loose for a 45-yard touchdown run to put Louisville's lead out of reach. Mafah added a second goal to his day but it was too little, too late for the Tigers.

Shough completed 17 of his 32 passes for 156 yards, with Ja'Corey Brooks on the receiving end of a team-high four passes for 42 yards.

The Cards will be back on the road in two weeks, heading across the country to Palo Alto after a week off to face the ACC's newest addition, Stanford.
