PS5 Pro spec leak reveals 2 additional GB of DDR5 RAM

While the PS5 Pro doesn't officially release until November 7th, some people have started to get their hands on Sony's revamped PlayStation 5 console. An unboxing video was posted a few days ago and quickly removed; Now Brazilian content creator Brunno Fast has also managed to secure a console and then share the full spec sheet document that comes with it.

By far the biggest surprise is that Sony added 2GB of DDR 5 RAM. These are likely to be reserved for the operating system, so that game developers can make full use of the 16 GB of GDDR6 for the actual games. Beyond that, it's mostly what we already knew.

* SSD capacity was calculated using base 10 math (1GB 0.1,000,000,000 bytes). **A portion of SSD capacity is reserved for use related to console management and maintenance, as well as additional options. This can happen while installing system software or other software. Therefore, SSD capacity availability may vary depending on console, system software version, or available options, and not all capacity will be available to you. *** The operation of all connected devices cannot be guaranteed. **** Use the included HDMI cable.

In summary, the PS5 Pro offers 67% more processing power than the base PS5 in terms of raw TFLOPS. According to Sony, on average this means around 45% faster playback. However, as several developers recently pointed out, the console's real ace is probably PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, the bespoke AI-powered upscaling developed by Sony. According to the developers of The First Descendant, it can rival the quality of any upscaler, even NVIDIA DLSS.

As a reminder, the PS5 Pro officially launches in stores worldwide next Thursday. Price is $699/£699/€799.
