Saints WR could wear a Guardian cap in the game

NFL teams are required to wear Guardian caps on their helmets during practice, and players have the option to wear them during live game action, but few in the league have chosen to do so: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Josh Whyle, James Daniels, Jabrill Peppers, Kylen Gransen, Rodney Thomas II, De'Von Achane and Luke Goedeke, among others.

It appears that Chris Olave is on track to be the first New Orleans Saints to take this option. ESPN's Katherine Terrell made an interesting observation during practice on Wednesday. Olave was the only player to have a lily emblazoned on his Guardian cap. Most protective headgear are blank, so the outside team's logo may indicate that they could be worn in the game.

Regardless of whether he goes through with it or not, wearing a Guardian hat might be a good idea for Olave. He has a history of concussions dating back to college. He suffered a concussion every season in the pros. The wide receiver was just coming back from a concussion last week and suffered a bad hit in the first game, which led to him going to the blue tent in his first game back.

Three concussions in three years are serious and wearing the Guardian cap represents at least one additional preventive measure for Olave. More concussions and we'll have some uncomfortable conversations about Olave's future.
