According to police in Michigan, four people were killed and 17 injured after a semi-truck collided with vehicles stuck in a traffic jam

WEBBERVILLE, Mich. – Four people were killed and 17 others injured late Saturday after a tractor-trailer crashed into more than a dozen parked vehicles on Interstate 96 in southeastern Michigan, according to state police.

Traffic on I-96 near Webberville was temporarily stopped Saturday as utility workers completed work on power lines in the area. A semi-truck with a trailer was traveling westbound around 11:45 p.m. and crashed into the stalled vehicles.

“It appears that the driver of the semi-truck did not see the backup and was unable to stop his vehicle in time,” Michigan State Police said in a statement on the social media platform X.

The impact caused the semi-trailer and several vehicles to catch fire. According to police, more than a dozen vehicles were involved in the accident.

Police confirmed four deaths and said 17 people were injured and transported to area hospitals.

Michigan State Police Lt. Rene Gonzalez had no further news Sunday.
