A man was found dead with a head injury near the Woodstock neighborhood, police said.

JSO said it received reports of an unresponsive person in the area early Sunday morning.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a man who was discovered with a head injury Sunday morning in the Woodstock section of Jacksonville.

According to JSO, the man was found on Columbus Avenue near Melson Avenue after officers responded to a report of an unresponsive person around 3:20 a.m

Officers discovered that the man, who police said was in his 50s, had an apparent head injury. He was identified as a homeless resident.

Shortly thereafter, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department personnel arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The cause of death is currently unknown. The coroner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine the circumstances. JSO is treating the case as an undetermined death pending further investigation.
