'My mother doesn't like it'… Jake Paul admits his mother is 'scared' about fighting Mike Tyson

Jake Paul has admitted his mother isn't thrilled about his next fight as he continues to prepare for the biggest event of the year.

There is a lot of controversy surrounding his upcoming showdown with Mike Tyson, with many fans believing that at 58, the heavyweight icon is too old to fight an active professional. But older viewers, including Jimmy Kimmel, are sure he will be too much for Paul's cruiserweight career.

And one member of Team Paul who isn't interested in the duel is Pam Stepnick; Jake's mother. She was in her 20s when Tyson began destroying opponents on November 15, earning a reputation as the baddest man on the planet, and fears for her son's safety.

Jake Paul admits his mother is scared of facing Mike Tyson

Since entering the boxing ring in 2018, both Jake Paul and his brother Logan have had the full support of their mother; Pam Stepnick. She was at ringside for all of their fights and even traveled to Saudi Arabia to watch the younger siblings face Tommy Fury.

However, speaking to Bloody Elbow at a PFL media event earlier this year, Paul claimed that his mother was frightened by his latest announcement. “She will be there, but my mother is actually very scared,” he explained at the time.

“She keeps asking me if I’m ready and asking my team if I’m ready. To be honest, she doesn't like this. He just looks scary and big and his Instagram videos on the gloves look crazy and stuff, so I get it.”

Jake Paul's mother Pam asked a shocking question before the fight with Mike Tyson

In a video first posted in March while Paul and Tyson were dating in July, the social media star asked his mother, “Hey, did I tell you I'm fighting Mike Tyson?” She appeared nervous giggle before asking, “What if he knocks you out?”

Stepnick turned 60 last year, meaning she would have been 23 when he won his first world title from Trevor Berbick. At the time, he was by far the most feared man in the world, and his legacy has transcended generations.

She would likely remember Tyson's famous knockout victories over Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks, as well as his ferocity outside the ring. And while she knows he and her son are friendly outside of the ring, her fears are understandable.

Jake Paul's father Greg Paul also fears the showdown with Mike Tyson

In the same YouTube video, Jake asked his father, Greg Paul, who his favorite boxer was as a child. The 61-year-old was part of the generation that idolized Tyson and called him his son in a blunt response when questioned.

After asking Jake the reason for his question, his son replied that he's “going to fight him in July.” Greg seemed stunned and told him, “No way, dude, are you kidding me, Jake? He'll be the toughest motherfucker you've ever fought. Dude, holy shit, I’m going to freak out.”

His father is probably right; Paul is a career cruiserweight who has made a name for himself fighting opponents who are increasing in weight and even in other sports. He was arguably dropped without a goal by Tyron Woodley and lost to Tommy Fury, but has yet to suffer a massive shot in his career.
