Crash on I-495 Methuen MA leaves two dead, driver charged – NBC Boston

A driver has been charged in connection with a fatal car crash in Methuen, Massachusetts, that left two people dead.

The Essex County District Attorney's Office confirmed that Massachusetts State Police are investigating the fatal car crash that occurred just after 6 a.m. on northbound I-495

According to prosecutors, state troopers and Methuen Fire Department personnel responded to a call around 6:12 a.m. and found several people trapped in a heavily damaged truck that had collided with a tree in the median near mile marker 104.4 north of the route 213.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. A second person was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, where he died of his injuries in the emergency room, police said. Two other people who were in the truck were also transported to Lawrence General with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

According to prosecutors, 26-year-old Katrina Nguyen left the scene of the accident and later reported herself to Lawrence police.

Nguyen is charged with negligent motor vehicle homicide, leaving the scene causing death, leaving the scene causing bodily harm, leaving the scene causing property damage and operating a motor vehicle after suspension.

She is expected to be arraigned in Lawrence Superior Court on Monday.

According to police, all northbound lanes were closed for some time following the accident. The right lane was reopened around 7:20 a.m. and the scene of the accident was cleared around 9:50 a.m
