Police chase ends in crash and arrest of 31-year-old man – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana traffic

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — A 31-year-old man is facing charges after a police chase that ended in a crash that closed Keystone Parkway late Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday, police said.

Raheem David Murray remained in the Hamilton County Jail in Noblesville Sunday afternoon.

Carmel police said in a social media post Sunday afternoon that officers pursued Murray until he entered the northbound southbound lanes of Keystone Parkway. Shortly afterwards, there was a collision with another vehicle and Murray fled on foot before officers caught him.

The driver of the other vehicle, whose identity Carmel police did not publicly release, was treated at a nearby hospital and later released.

A Carmel deputy police chief told News 8 via email that the accident began just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday on Keystone Parkway near 126th Street.

Photos taken around midnight Saturday by News 8's Adele Reich showed a white SUV on its side north of 116th Street. Motorists would be turned away from the park road, she said.

The Carmel Police Department's social media post showed small photos of what appeared to be a suitcase containing plastic bags of marijuana; a firearm; and a damaged black car. Early Sunday evening, Carmel police released photos of the suitcase and car.

Carmel police have not revealed what prompted them to begin pursuing Murray or when the accident occurred.

Jail records show the Indianapolis man was being held at the Hamilton County Jail at 3:30 a.m. Sunday. He is tentatively charged with felony marijuana trafficking; possession of marijuana; unlawful carrying of a handgun following a felony conviction within the past 15 years; and resistance to law enforcement. He also faces preliminary misdemeanor charges of driving while suspended; resistance to law enforcement; reckless driving; and leaving the scene of the accident.

Online court records show an arrest warrant issued in April by Marion Superior Court 27 for Raheem David Murray. In that case, filed in February 2023, the man pleaded guilty to a felony following a previous conviction; and marijuana trafficking. Judge Peggy Ryan Hart sent the man to a work release program for two years, minus 238 days he served in prison before his sentencing, records show.
