Bob Lee Murder Trial: Khazar Momeni 'has no right to victimize herself,' says ex-wife Krista Lee

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — The sister of the man accused of stabbing and killing Bob Lee concluded her testimony on the witness stand Wednesday. Nima Momeni is accused of stabbing and killing Lee in the early hours of April 4, 2023.

Prosecutors spent much of the day trying to discredit Khazar Momeni, their own witness, by questioning discrepancies between her answers and their answers to Nima Momeni's defense attorneys.

The prosecutor gave Khazar example after example of questions he had previously asked her, where she had answered “I don't know anymore” during direct examination, but when Nima Momeni's lawyers cross-examined her, she answered the same or a similar one When asked a key question, she answered “yes”. One example was text messages Khazar sent to her brother Nima Momeni after the murder of Bob Lee, in which she called him psychotic and crazy and wrote to him, “You scare me.” When prosecutors asked about those texts, she said , she couldn't remember it. When her brother's defense attorneys angrily asked her if the same texts were not about the murder of Bob Lee, but rather about Jeremy Boivin, who allegedly sexually abused her, she replied: “Yes, that's what those texts were about.”

Prosecutors also questioned Khazar Momeni's credibility by examining her testimony Tuesday during cross-examination when she told Nima Momeni's defense attorneys that Bob Lee's family had threatened her. Prosecutors presented the text she was referring to as evidence, and after much back and forth, Khazar agreed that the text sent by Bob Lee's ex-wife Krista was not sent directly to her, but to someone else, who then shared it with a friend of Khazar's who caught it on screen and shared it with her. The text message asked for detective help in finding Khazar so that a subpoena could be served on her so she could testify in court. She was also addressed with a derogatory word. Khazar Momeni said she didn't know how her brother's lawyers ended up getting the text message, but she was frightened and shaken. ABC7 News reporter Melanie Woodrow asked Krista Lee about the text.

“It wasn't directed at them at all, so we'll let them do what they need to do in court,” Krista Lee said.

“What do you think about how the government is doing?” Woodrow asked.

“My husband was murdered, she has no right to do this… she has no right to victimize herself when our family was the one who was murdered. She can fuck herself,” Lee replied.

On Wednesday afternoon, Bob Lee's family returned to court without Krista, who told Woodrow that the judge had barred her from court for the remainder of Khazar's testimony.

Before Khazar's testimony concluded Wednesday afternoon, jurors had a chance to ask questions. One of those questions was whether Khazar knew whether her brother practiced martial arts. A question that is important because in opening arguments, Nima Momeni's lawyers suggested that he stood his ground and acted in self-defense based on his extensive martial arts and self-defense training. Khazar replied, “I know he took self-defense classes a few years ago.” More witnesses took the stand this afternoon about the attempted sale of Nima Momeni's car by his mother and sister after the murder of Bob Lee, and jurors heard the testimony police about surveillance videos seized after Lee's murder. Testimony continues Thursday morning for a half-day session only. The court will then resume next Wednesday.
