Emerson pollster Matt Taglia looks at new polls in Nevada and Michigan and early voting data

On Forbes Newsroom, Matt Taglia, senior director of Emerson College Polling, discussed new contested state polls that show a close race between former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

In Nevada, Emerson's poll shows the vice president with a one-point lead over the former president, 48% to 47%, while in Michigan, Trump has the same lead over Harris, 49% to 48%.

Taglia says the polls are similar to those from September. “I think the overall picture is that not much has changed.”

Taglia urged election advocates to pay more attention to early voting. In Nevada, Taglia says Emerson polls show Harris at 50% among early voters while Trump is close behind at 47%, while pointing out that the polls' small sample size increases the poll's margin of error. “If I were the Harris campaign candidate, I would really like that number to be a little higher in Nevada.”

Looking at early voting data in Michigan, Taglia says, “We see that independents are effectively split 47% for Trump and 45% for Harris.” Again, not much changes. Overall, it’s just a small blip for Harris.”
