Famous comedian who went viral for insulting Trump has died aged 63

Scottish comedian Janey Godley, who gained international fame for her attack on former President Donald Trump, has died of ovarian cancer. She was 63.

Godley died on Saturday, November 2, at the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, Scotland, Godley's daughter Ashley Storrie said in a video posted to social media. Storrie said Godley was surrounded by her family when she died.

“I want to thank you all for your kindness and support. I believe from the bottom of my heart that she felt every bit of love you sent her. And I think it kept her going,” Storrie said in the video. “I really think we have her longer because of all the support and love in the world. But that's over now. So thank you again and goodbye, Ma.”

Godley gained worldwide notoriety for holding a sign outside former President Donald Trump's Turnberry Golf Resort that read: “Trump is a [expletive]” in 2016, before he was elected.

In October, she went viral again for sharing a picture of herself in her bed and intubated wearing a T-shirt that read, “Trump is still a…” [expletive].”

Former Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon described Godley as “a force of nature and one of the funniest people I have ever known” in an emotional tribute to X.

“I was able to visit her in hospice a few weeks ago and even though she was fragile, she still had me in awe,” the tribute reads. “Janey was incredibly nice too. And she made the world a better place.”

Godley also gained viral fame with her dubbed impersonations of Sturgeon's COVID-19 briefings during the pandemic, which Sturgeon admired.

“In the most difficult times, she made people laugh – and that was valuable. However, she did more than that. She helped me convey the serious messages of my public health briefings to a much wider audience than I could have done on my own.” “Saving lives,” Sturgeon wrote of Godley.

“I was so proud to call Janey a friend and will miss her very much. My condolences go out to her family and many friends – they are in my thoughts today,” Sturgeon added.

According to the late comedian's website, Godley had been living with stage four ovarian cancer for “several years.” According to Sky News, she was transferred to a hospice for end-of-life care last month. The condition caused Godley to cancel her fall 2024 tour.

“This news has been incredibly difficult for Janey as she is heartbroken to have to cancel her shows and disappoint her thousands of loyal fans and the wonderful venues where she has loved performing over the years,” it said Godley's website. “She would like to express her deep gratitude for the continued love, support and understanding of both her fans and venue partners during this challenging time.”

According to Sky News, Godley is survived by her husband of 44 years, Sean Storrie, and their daughter.
