Berk's wife was arrested for shoplifting $1,000 from the Exeter Walmart

A St. Lawrence woman was arrested after Exeter Township police said she attempted to steal more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from the Walmart at 5900 Perkiomen Ave.

Samantha Dalton, 28, of the first block of Brumbach Street, was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Saturday as she attempted to leave the store through a side exit in the automobile department.

According to court documents:

A Walmart security guard noticed a woman, later identified as Dalton, placing high-value merchandise in a shopping cart. The office suspected it was a retail theft and began surveillance on Dalton. She was seen walking past all the points of sale and towards the main exits, which had either been closed or blocked by store staff.

Store staff alerted Exeter police and Dalton was charged with retail theft.

She was free to await a post-arraignment hearing before District Judge Steven Chiefo at Reading Central Court.

Court records show Dalton was also charged by Exeter police with aggravated retail theft on Oct. 17. The charges were filed on Oct. 31, two days before Saturday's incident, but she had yet to be arraigned on the earlier charge.
