Man faces charges for allegedly killing a bear while driving drunk in New Hampshire

A Massachusetts man is facing drunken driving charges in New Hampshire after he allegedly hit and killed a bear Sunday night.

Timothy Harrigan, 30, of Leominster, is charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence and an open container violation, according to police in Hollis, New Hampshire.

Police said officers responded to Broad Street near Pine Hill Road around 6:15 p.m. Sunday on a report of a bear being struck by a vehicle. The bear was found dead at the scene.

“While speaking with Harrigan, officers noted signs of impairment and conducted further investigation,” police said.

Harrigan was taken into custody. Police said he had a blood alcohol level of 0.17 at the time of the crash, more than twice the legal limit.

Harrigan was released on bond and will return for his arraignment in 9th District Court in Nashua.

Police said the person who arranged for Harrigan to pick him up from the train station, a woman from Nashua, was driving with a suspended license and registrations. She was issued a citation for these violations.
