Women's tennis player Boulter easily made it to the round of 16 of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo

KATIE BOULTER scored a comfortable first-round win at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo as she defeated Australia's Priscilla Hon in straight sets.

The world number 33 needed just 75 minutes to claim a 6-1, 6-4 win and secure a place in the round of 16.

Boulter led 5-3 in the second set before her serve was broken but Hon, ranked 217th in the world, was unable to capitalize.

Boulter will next face Japan's Kyoka Okamura, who advanced after a win over American Hailey Baptiste.

British teenager Mika Stojsavljevic, meanwhile, put in an outstanding performance before losing to Japanese world number 57 Moyuka Uchijima in the third set tiebreak.

The 15-year-old, who won the US Open women's singles title in September, was desperately close to her first WTA Tour victory.

She led 5-3 in the deciding set, but Uchijima – who was more than 570 places above her opponent – took the tiebreaker 8-6 after a game that lasted nine minutes and less than three hours.

Stojsavljevic saved three match points in the second set before winning the tiebreak but couldn't get over the finish line as Uchijima prevailed 6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (6).
