Philomath man killed in weekend crash on SW Belmont Lane west of Madras; Speed, alcohol obvious factors

MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Philomath man was killed west of Madras late Saturday night when he failed to negotiate a sharp turn at about 90 mph and his pickup truck crashed into a rock wall, Jefferson County Sheriff Jason Pollock said. on Monday.

Officers were dispatched to the reported single-vehicle accident on Southwest Belmont Lane on the west side of Dry Canyon shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, Pollock said.

An investigation revealed that 27-year-old Caleb Rowland-Barnes was alone in the Ford F-250 diesel pickup truck heading west out of the canyon when he failed to make the sharp turn and crashed into a rock wall, causing him to eject from the truck was thrown and dies from his injuries.

“It is believed that alcohol was a factor in the crash,” Pollock added.
