AI short video production tool MOKI · TechNode

Note: The article was first published on TechNode China, written by Steven Lee and translated by Zinan Zhang.

Have you ever wondered how AI could help create a one to two minute short film? The Chinese software manufacturer Meitu recently launched a tool for creating short videos. MOKIwhich offers users exactly this option. The tool is designed to make it easier to create short and engaging videos. MOKI users can create a range of content, from simple animated clips to web dramas, illustrated picture books for children, or romantic videos for their loved ones.

Thanks to MOKI's intuitive interface, it is a software that does not require any specialist knowledge. An extensive library of templates and materials allows users to select and customize elements. MOKI also provides comprehensive tutorials and information on how to troubleshoot problems that arise during the creative journey.

Pre-production

With just a simple text description, MOKI can automatically generate a storyboard and visuals. We gave MOKI the following story to test his powers:

“In a small town, a young librarian named Ike comes across an ancient spell book that contains a forgotten spell. As he reads it, time freezes in the city and Ike is the only one unaffected. To restore time, he sets off on an exciting adventure full of dangers and puzzles. In the end, Ike not only breaks the spell, but also discovers his true courage and his true mission: he becomes the protector of the city.”

MOKI's storyboard is ready in about 30 seconds. Then it is up to the user to select a video style (e.g. Chinese cartoon or 3D animation), narration tone and screen ratio before proceeding to preview the pre-generated content.

The storytelling styles offered by MOKI range from youthful and energetic to warm and gentle. Your narrator could be a wise elder or a sweet little boy. Your film can be produced in landscape format (16:9) or portrait format (9:16).

Content generation

At this stage, the story can be refined by optimizing the details of each scene and assigning characters to each frame. In addition to AI-generated characters, MOKI also allows custom characters when users upload a frontal image for reference. AI-powered customization is also available for customizing characters' clothing, hairstyles, and other visual elements.

Post production

As a final step, MOKI's interface mimics a simplified video editing tool, complete with a timeline for image and audio tracks. It features AI-powered dubbing and offers a variety of voice styles to enhance the final video. Users can also choose background music from a wide range of moods, such as: B. great, cute, sentimental, intense, scary or futuristic electronic.

For visual effects, users can adjust camera movements and add simple transitions like horizontal shifts or zooms, similar to PowerPoint effects. Text input can also be used to generate additional content using AI.

The final video took our testing team about 3 minutes to create. However, we were confused that the tool didn't accurately reflect key elements of our script, such as the key moment where “time seems to stand still in the small town,” a major plot point. Diploma

Overall, MOKI is a promising AI tool that lowers the barrier to entry for video creation and makes the fun endeavor accessible to more users. Although it's a great option for those looking for speed and simplicity, there is room for improvement. We hope to see better image quality, more style options, and support for longer videos in future updates. Additionally, integrating MOKI with other creative tools would provide users with a more comprehensive solution to their video creation needs. And it would be great if MOKI could stick to the script.
