As frustration grew over the Dallas Cowboys' 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, head coach Mike McCarthy was spotted slamming his tablet on the ground on the sideline.

McCarthy addressed that moment Wednesday, saying there was “no excuse for it.”

“I'm embarrassed. “It’s something that obviously there’s no excuse for at my age,” McCarthy said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “I don’t represent that. I'm embarrassed to be the leader of this team. … That was definitely a moment I would have liked to have had again.”

In some ways, McCarthy's feelings in that heated moment on the sideline reflect those of the entire Cowboys organization. Dallas fell to 3-5 on the year with Sunday's loss and continues to see its playoff hopes shrink each week.

To make matters worse, the Cowboys lost star quarterback Dak Prescott in the match due to a hamstring injury. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Dallas will likely place Prescott on injured reserve, meaning he would miss at least four games.

Prescott hasn't had the best season of his career yet with 1,978 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions, but the Cowboys' offense will still miss him sorely over the next few weeks.

Before facing the Falcons, Prescott called the game “an unconditional win.”

“For me, every game is hell,” he said, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer. “But of course it’s 3-4, as I said, there’s still a lot of season left, but the first start, to be able to say confidently, is to be even again, especially if you still have a few home games after that.”

The loss in this must-win game adds pressure to the Cowboys as they prepare to face the red-hot Philadelphia Eagles, who have won their last four games.
