Oklahoma State president releases statement on Mike Gundy's viral fan comments

Oklahoma State President Dr. Kayse Shrum made a statement at a recent press conference regarding Cowboys football coach Mike Gundy's comments to fans.

Gundy said his critics were “the same failure as before“You said something negative to others. Dr. Shrum remained steadfast in her stance.

“OSU Athletic Director Chad Weiberg and I appreciate the strength that comes from bringing the OSU family together,” the statement said. “Coach Gundy’s comments at the press conference did not reflect the university’s position and he subsequently issued a statement apologizing for those offensive comments.

“We are grateful to the dedicated OSU fans and donors who make our success possible and appreciate their support during this challenging season.”

Gundy has also since apologized for his comments on social media.

“I apologize to those who were offended by my comments during Monday’s media call,” Gundy wrote. “My intention was not to offend any of our fans who have supported us and this program over the years.”

His comments come amid Oklahoma State's 3-6 start to the season. Since the Cowboys' preseason win total this year is 7.5, the most they can achieve is seven wins – and that's only if they win their final three regular-season games, which makes them eligible to bowl and win the bowl game.

Do that about it TCU, Texas Tech and No. 20 Colorado — all of whom have records above .500 — is a tall order for any team in the Big 12 this season. Not to mention, Oklahoma State will enter Week 11 on a six-game losing streak and still winless in conference play .

There will inevitably be criticism during such a winning streak, but Oklahoma State still has a chance to extend its season and finish it on a high note. That effort begins Saturday against the Horned Frogs.

Kickoff between Oklahoma State and TCU is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on FS1. The Cowboys are 10.5 point underdogs.
