US election results: Our fight for gender equality is more urgent than ever

With the latest US election results, we are facing one Challenging reality: a leader whose policies raise serious concerns about the health of democracy, body autonomy, individual rights and climate change. This outcome underscores the critical importance of our work to uphold and protect fundamental freedoms and advocate for the necessary changes in our communities and beyond.

The truth is that the US elections have direct consequences for women, girls and all historically marginalized communities around the world. For four years, the previous Republican administration restricted reproductive rights and the rights of immigrants, LGBTQI people, people of color and others. They exported deadly anti-voting politics around the globe by expanding the global gag rule.

“Our fight continues and it is more important than ever. This outcome reinforces the urgency of our work on gender equity,” said PeiYao Chen, President and CEO of the Global Fund for Women.

At the Global Fund for Women, we believe that political empowerment and equal participation of women, alongside the right to life, are essential building blocks for gender justice free from violence and discrimination to have full control over their bodiesand move forward climate and racial justice. We have provided financial support to promote the civic and political participation of feminist leaders around the world – in Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Fiji, Ghana and other countries.

“For over 35 years, the Global Fund for Women has championed women, girls and historically disadvantaged groups around the world as they fight for justice and equality. Today, we are amplifying this work and more determined than ever to create change,” said PeiYao Chen, President and CEO of the Global Fund for Women.
