NORTH PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (WLNE) – Firefighters responded to a home on Sorrell Road yesterday for a hazardous materials incident in North Providence.

According to Fire Chief John Horan, a homeowner improperly used some cleaning products, causing a chemical reaction.

Horan said the homeowner took video and took it to one of our fire stations.

Firefighters and rescue workers responded and said they soon determined there was a concentration of chlorine gas.

The emergency services on site immediately called a hazardous materials transporter, who entered the house in full protective equipment and removed all chemicals.

The house was then ventilated and deemed safe from the gas.

The homeowner and his family, including pets, were uninjured.

Horan said the homeowners need professionals to help with the cleanup because the process left some debris behind.
