'Winter' weather causes crashes on I-40 in Flagstaff

play

Icy conditions caused crashes on Interstate 40 near Flagstaff Wednesday morning.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, I-40 eastbound was closed following a crash at milepost 195 near the Interstate 17 interchange. The lanes were reopened shortly before 9 a.m., ADOT said, warning commuters that there would be “significant delays” in the area.

ADOT posted on X, formerly Twitter: “We are seeing wintry conditions in the Flagstaff area.”

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said there was half an inch of ice on I-40 as the agency posted photos on X of crashes there, including tractor-trailer crashes.

“Driver, DO NOT block the rescue lanes! This has delayed response efforts by police officers, ADOT and towing services who are working hard to remove accidents from roadways,” the DPS post said.
