The charges stemmed from an earlier sexual assault against a minor, police said Thursday.

The female victim reported that on September 28, while driving home, she was lured into a vehicle driven by a male suspect, later identified as Dewitt.

Investigators determined that Dewitt sexually assaulted the victim in the vehicle. The victim was not physically injured in the incident, police said.

On October 25, 2024, investigators managed to obtain an arrest warrant for Dewitt.

“That should also be taken into account [Waterbury] Additionally, we recently issued an active arrest warrant for Dewitt on October 15, 2023,” said Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department. “This warrant related to charges related to another separate sexual assault investigation of a minor that occurred on October 9, 2024 in Waterbury. In this earlier incident, a female victim was also lured into a Dewitt pickup truck and further sexually assaulted.”

Dewitt remained in the custody of the state Department of Corrections on a $550,000 bond and was scheduled to be served with that warrant at his scheduled court date on Thursday.

The arrest warrant is accompanied by a court-ordered bond of $750,000.

Anyone with further information about the incidents or any other incidents involving the suspect is asked to contact investigators at 203-574-6941.

Dewitt was also wanted by New Haven police for a previous sexual assault investigation involving a minor, Waterbury police said.
