Suspect arrested for alleged knife attack near WL sewage treatment plant

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – An arrest has been made in a suspected knife attack Monday evening near the West Lafayette Wastewater Treatment Plant, according to West Lafayette police.

According to a news release, officers responded to a report of a knife attack around 9:35 p.m. Monday that occurred near a campground in the woods behind the West Lafayette Wastewater Treatment Plant at River Road and Tapawingo Drive.

By the time officers arrived, the victim had already been taken to IU Health Arnett for treatment of his injuries, a news release said.

Police said they identified the suspect in the stabbing as Justin Craig, a 21-year-old homeless man. On Wednesday, deputies with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office located Craig, the release said, and took him to the West Lafayette Police Department after an interview.

Craig is currently in the Tippecanoe County Jail on a preliminary charge of assault occasioning serious bodily injury.
