Liam Payne's hotel room in Argentina was searched by police after the One Direction singer fell to his death

Liam Payne's hotel room in Argentina has been searched by police officers looking for “new information” about staff working on the day of the One Direction singer's death.

Officials searched for documents in Casa Sur's registration books as well as information stored in its computers as part of the raid, Us Weekly reports.

The four-star hotel in Buenos Aires “needs” to provide more security camera footage from October 16 – the day Payne fell to his death at age 31, insiders told the outlet.

He died instantly from severe internal and external injuries and had a toxic mixture of medications in his body at the time of his death.

The raid comes just a day after the singer's heartbroken father Geoff Payne said he was cooperating with officers investigating his son's death.

The singer's bodyguard, Paul Higgins, along with Payne's father, assisted police in reviewing security footage at the hotel. Higgins was also seen questioning several hotel employees.

Geoff, 66, had been warned he would have to wait up to ten days to bring his son's body home.

The elder Payne has since vowed to stay with his son until he can bring him back to the UK.

The pop star's body is being held in a morgue while Argentine Justice Ministry officials continue the investigation.

The father-of-three, who shares Liam and his sisters Ruth Gibbins and Nicola Payne with his wife Karen, visited the hotel where his son died last week and thanked fans for their warm tributes.

Earlier this week, a preliminary autopsy report from Argentina's prosecutors revealed that Payne died of “multiple trauma” and “internal and external bleeding.”

In addition to pink cocaine, also known as Tusi – a combination of methamphetamine, ketamine and ecstasy – the toxicology test found benzodiazepines, crack and cocaine, among others, in his bloodstream.

A makeshift aluminum tube for ingesting the substances was also found nearby, ABC News reported.

Witnesses also said Payne behaved erratically in the hours before his death.

A distraught hotel manager called police in Buenos Aires shortly before his death, alerting them that someone under the influence of drugs and alcohol was vandalizing the room and possibly putting his life in danger.
