A Milwaukee parent accused of attacking a teacher has been arrested

A parent of a Milwaukee public school student has been charged with a felony after he attacked a teacher at his child's elementary school, according to prosecutors.

Eddie Caldwell, 53, was charged last week with assault on a school district officer, a felony, and disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. He is currently in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail, according to online records.

According to a criminal complaint, the incident occurred Oct. 29 at Bruce Elementary School, 6453 North 89th Street.

The teacher entered her special education classroom and found Caldwell there with her students, the complaint states.

Caldwell pushed and punched the teacher in the head several times, used profanity and said he was going to “hit her,” the complaint says. Several witnesses spoke to police and confirmed the teacher's claims.

“MPS is aware of the situation at Bruce Elementary School,” the district said in a statement.

“Student safety remains our primary focus at MPS. When situations arise that could impact safety, the district has policies and procedures in place. We expect everyone in our buildings to adhere to our standards of conduct at all times, especially when students are present.

“Due to state and federal law, the district cannot comment on the circumstances of individual students and their families. The district cannot comment on personnel matters. MPS will follow its code of conduct when it comes to consequences for anyone who chooses to become involved.”
