Why Saoirse Ronan was surprised her self-defense comments went viral

But I think it's really important for us, for all of our little young girls growing up, that we say, 'This is this, this is this.' “Mentality that a woman must have and that a young girl must have every day of her life.”

But the actress also made it clear that Paul is her “dear friend” and doesn't “debunk” her statement.

“He fully understands and completely understands it,” Saoirse told the British newspaper Virgin Radioper deadline“But I think the fact that there was a moment like that on a show like this Graham Nortonit's something that the whole country is channeling and watching, and even overseas it's something that people are tuning into, it seems to have had an accessibility that seems to have really gained traction.”
