City of Enfield, NH employee placed on leave following cybersecurity incident

ENFIELD, NH (WCAX) – A city employee in Enfield, New Hampshire has been placed on leave after a mistake led to a cybersecurity incident.

The city manager there says an error resulted in a “significant amount” of city funds being deposited into a fraudulent account.

When the error was discovered, the city manager filed a report with the Enfield Police Department, which immediately worked with the Secret Service and the FBI's Cyber ​​Crimes Division to investigate.

So far, their findings indicate that a city employee responded to a request to update Enfield's bank account information but did not follow proper procedures.

Some of the funds have been frozen and will now be returned to the city, and there are ongoing efforts to recover additional funds.

The city says it is now strengthening its cybersecurity measures.
